I don’t have much time this afternoon for a long, in-depth post, but I thought I’d give you a quick update on three former Mountaineer basketball players: Devin Ebanks, Casey Mitchell, and John Flowers.
-A few tidbits from the weekend:
Flowers start for the Saitama Broncos in Japan where he is one of their leading scorers, rebounders, and shot-blockers. He is emerging as a star in the B.J. League in his rookie season. He has vastly improved his three-point shot from when he played last season in Morgantown. Two weeks ago, Flowers rolled his ankle in a game and missed some time. Thankfully for Flowers, the B.J. League has bye weeks for their teams similar to a bye week in football. For the Broncos, their bye week was last week, so the team only played one game in the past two weeks without Flowers’ services.
He returned to action on Monday in a one-sided loss to Alberex BB. Flowers scored 12 points in the 104-70 loss.
Mitchell played in his 2nd game back with the Sioux Falls Skyforce after serving a brief stint with the Houston Rockets. Playing the Dakota Wizards for the second time in as many nights, Casey Mitchell scored a team-high 18 points for the Skyforce as they lost 95-97. Mitchell now leads Sioux Falls in scoring with 18.3 points per game.
Sioux Falls visits the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Thursday at 8 E.T.
- A note for tonight:
After playing well in the Lakers scrimmage over the weekend, Devin Ebanks gets the opportunity to compete for the starting SF spot tonight in the Lakers’ opening exhibition against their cross-gym foe, the L.A. Clippers at the Staples Center. Ebanks is in an open competition with Matt Barnes and Luke Walton for the starting position left vacant after the Lakers traded Lamar Odom to Dallas. Barnes probably has the inside edge for now, as he has more NBA experience. Barnes will likely get the start tonight, but look for Ebanks to get significant playing time.
The game starts at 10:30 E.T.
