Noel Devine is joining three other Mountaineers north of the border. Today, the Montreal Alouettes signed Devine to a two-year contract according to CFL News and Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette. He joins Mountaineers Jock Sanders, Avon Cobourne, and Lance Frazier in the CFL.
In his Mountaineer career, Devine rushed for 4,315 yards and 29 TDs in his four seasons in Morgantown. He joins a team that featured Mountaineer All-time leading rusher two years ago, Avon Cobourne.
I asked Cobourne what he thought of Devine joining his old team, and he said, “Awesome. Happy there is going to be more WVU back in that league.”
Devine is expected to compete with Brandon Whitaker from Baylor University for the starting running back position. Whitaker took over that position last season after the Als elected not to re-sign Cobourne who helped the team win 2 Grey Cups.
After being released from the Philadelphia Eagles shortly after training camp began last season, Devine signed with the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL where he played sparingly.
