In a game against New Orleans last week, Bryant injured his chin. He had not missed a game in the past two seasons, but he and the team decided for the shin to heal, he needed rest.
To that end, the team announced a few hours before the game that Ebanks would start at shooting guard in place of Bryant.
It did not take long for Ebanks to prove that was a good decision.
Before Saturday night, Ebanks’ career high was 9 pts. He had10 pts already through the first 14 minutes of play. He finished the game with 12 on 6-11 shooting to go along with 4 rebounds in 32 minutes of play.
“It felt good to be out there,” Ebanks said. “Hopefully, I can keep this thing rolling and take it from there. And get some wins.”
In the previous 33 games before Saturday, Ebanks played only twice compiling a total of 4 garbage time minutes.
The Suns defeated the Lakers 125-105.
The Lakers play on the road at New Orleans tonight. Bryant’s status for the game is uncertain at this point. If he can’t go, expect Ebanks to start again.
