The leading rusher in Mountaineer history is poised to return to the CFL for another season after re-signing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats today. Avon Cobourne announced his re-signing via his website.
Cobourne became a free-agent after rushing for 961 yards last season with the Tiger-Cats. The team released Cobourne after signing 2009′s top CFL Rookie, Martell Mallett.
Mallett tore his ACL on Thursday during the first week of CFL training camps, prompting the team to call on Cobourne’s services.
Cobourne is one of the leading rushers in CFL history after leading the Montreal Alouettes to two Grey Cups (him being named the MVP of one).
Cobourne’s return signals a takeover of sorts of former Mountaineer running backs in the CFL. Noel Devine and Jock Sanders are going through their first training camps with Montreal and Saskatchewan respectively. The early word on both players is they are taking their camps by storm.
