Last night was the first slate of games in the NFL Preseason. Several former Mountaineers stood out. None more so than J.T. Thomas. You can read the recap of Thursday night’s action here.
Here is a rundown of what to expect tonight involving former Mountaineers:
Jets vs. Bengals 7:30 NFL Network
Ellis Lankster has been one of the most talked about players in Jets’ camp so far. He is in great shape and has been all over the field making plays, breaking up passes, interceptions, and sacks.
Coming out of OTA’s, the Jets listed Lanskter as their #4 corner. We will see if his performance in camp will earn him more playing time tonight.
The Bengals activated Robert Sands for one game last season. The NFL Lockout hampered his transition to the NFL, but he feels he has learned a lot during camp and this past offseason. He has had a quiet camp so far and is the backup FS. Expect for Sands to get a lot of playing time on special teams and during the second half.
Adam Pacman Jones has missed most of camp with a bad hamstring. He returned to practice earlier this week, and head coach Marvin Lewis said Jones could see action tonight at both corner and kick returner.
*NOTE* This game precedes the Arena Bowl featuring former Mountaineer Kent Richardson.
Buccaneers vs. Dolphins 7:30
Steve Slaton begins his first full season with Dolphins tonight against a couple of rookie Mountaineers in Keith Tandy and Najee Goode.
Slaton is behind Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas on the depth chart. Bush is not likely to play much. It will be interesting to see how the Dolphins use Slaton. We know he will return kicks. He has practiced this week as the third-down running back and has been noted for looking great catching passes out of the backfield.
Tandy and Goode will make their pro debuts tonight for the Bucs. Greg Schiano switched Tandy to safety during the offseason to take advantage of his zone coverage skills.
In tonight’s game, the Bucs defensive starters aren’t expected to play much. This means Tandy and Goode should play most of the game.
Giants vs. Jaguars 7:30
Selvish Capers looks to earn a role on the Giants’ offensive line after spending part of last season on their practice squad.
