After two exciting sets of NFL Preseason games where we saw J.T. Thomas lead the Bears defense on Thursday night and Ellis Lankster lead the Jets defense on Friday night, will we see Bruce Irvin lead the Seahawks defense on Saturday night?
Irvin should play early and often as the Seahawks face the Tennessee Titans at 10:00 p.m. ET. Look for him to line up opposite of Chris Clemons on passing downs in the nickel defense. He will play what the Seahawks call the “LEO” position. It is a hybrid defensive lineman/ linebacker who will line up at the line of scrimmage standing up.
Irvin will be asked to rush the quarterback (which he has opened eyes in camp) or drop back in pass coverage.
He predicts double-digit sacks during his rookie season, and that is very possible.
He may have a chance to tackle former Mountaineer Darius Reynaud for the Titans. Reynaud signed a futures contract with Tennessee and switched from wide receiver to running back.
He will back up Chris Johnson. By all reports, Reynaud has looked great in camp. He has adjusted to running the ball well. He played running back in high school before getting converted to wide receiver at WVU. Of course, the team loves that he is an option to catch the ball out of the backfield.
Earlier in the evening, the Carolina Panthers will play the Houston Texans at 7:00 p.m. ET. Brandon Hogan will not play. He has not practiced in nearly two weeks while dealing with a sore knee.
Both games are on the NFL Network.
