hogan  Drafted by the Carolina Panthers with the first pick in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft, Brandon Hogan was never fully healthy. He played in a total of three games at the end of his rookie season and never saw the field during his second Preseason with the team. He suffered a setback to the repaired ACL in his knee and rarely practiced during the Preseason. The Panthers placed him on season-ending IR before Week 1.

After the Panthers ousted longtime GM Marty Hurney following a 1-5 start, the team cleaned house of some of the perceived bad decisions from the previous regime. Going into last season, the Panthers expected Hogan to compete for the #2 corner spot. After using such a high pick on Hogan with little to show for it, the team felt it was in their best interests to part ways.

We informed you in November that Hogan was nearly healthy and would soon be cleared to workout for NFL teams. At the time, his agent, Drew Pittman, revealed that some teams had been in contact, expressing interest.

Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer reported that Hogan had a tryout with the Chicago Bears on Tuesday setting up a possible reunion with J.T. Thomas. However, Hogan appears to have left town without getting signed.

The Bears fired long-time head coach Lovie Smith after the end of the regular season, despite a 10-6 record. They hired Montreal Alouettes head coach, Marc Trestman, to fill the void. Trestman coached Scooter Berry and Noel Devine last season in the CFL.
