A question we have received repeatedly over the past month is: will Geno Smith throw at the NFL Combine? We received an answer on Tuesday evening when Gil Brandt of NFL.com reported that Smith will do a full workout in front of scouts, coaches and NFL executives.
Many times, a high-profile quarterback will only participate in a few events at the Combine, and instead hope they can put on sterling performances at their Pro-Day and in private workouts. The event they most often skip out on is the throwing session. At the Combine, quarterbacks typically throw to receivers they’re not familiar with, which sometimes leads to breakdowns in communication, which can make an otherwise great QB look average.
If there’s one thing we know about Geno Smith, it is that he has a lot of confidence in himself and his abilities. This is the first time he will have the opportunity to show what he can do on the same field as other leading QBs such as Matt Barkley, Mike Glennon, Tyler Wilson and others. Why not come out and try to prove that he should be the first quarterback taken in April’s Draft?
The other quarterbacks have not come out and said if they’re going to throw at the Combine yet, but you can figure they will begin to follow Smith’s lead. Then, hopefully, Smith will lead the way among quarterbacks in the Draft. Perhaps being the #1 pick?
