Two years after leaving the Big East Conference, West Virginia men’s basketball team will once again compete on the floor of the World’s Most Famous Arena.
According to Jon Rothsein of CBS, West Virginia will play a neutral site game against the Atlantic Coast Conference’s North Carolina State Wolfpack on December 20 at Madison Square Garden. West Virginia is 9-7 all-time and currently holds a four-game win streak against NC State dating back to 76-73 win in Raleigh in 1997.
The most recent of those meetings between the two basketball programs, a 71-66 win, occurred during the quarterfinals of the 2007 NIT Tournament in Morgantown. Following the win against NC State, West Virginia would go on to win the program’s second NIT Championship following their first in the 1942 season.
As for the first game back at Madison Square Garden since 2012, it should feel like home away from home for the team.
West Virginia has played the second highest number of its away games at Madison Square Garden, with the most being played at the Charleston Civic Center in the Mountain State’s capital city.
The remainder of the 2014 West Virginia men’s basketball schedule has yet to be set, but stay with WVU Pros for updates when next year’s slate of games is released later this year.
