Bruce Irvin’s battle to make a name for himself in Seattle’s star-studded defense will get harder after it was announced Monday that the DE/LB underwent hip surgery.
The details of the surgery were not made public nor was a timetable on his return, although Irvin expects to be back before training camp starts in July.
Irvin seems to not be able to catch a break in becoming a staple, serving a four-game suspension last season and now having offseason hip surgery following the Super Bowl, which he did not start after starting the previous two playoff games.
But Irvin isn’t worried that the surgery will cause a setback in his development into the versatile player that he’s becoming, tweeting:
Didn’t want this to get out but I’m fine! Will b back by training camp! For all u people saying this a make or break year for me!

Irvin went on to say that if he would’ve missed any games that he wouldn’t have had the surgery and that he’s progressing smoothly. Irvin’s number could be called upon at linebacker or defensive end this season, ultimately getting him back to doing what he does best: rushing the passer.
