Feel Good Friday: Irvin has always had love for WVU
It’s Super Bowl weekend for our very own Bruuuuuuuce!
This week’s Feel Good Friday is also a Flashback Friday in honor of Mountaineer great, Super Bowl XLVIII Champion and Super Bowl XLIX contender, Bruce Irvin.
Bruce Irvin has nothing but love for West Virginia University. It is a place that he now considers home.
In December of 2012, during his rookie season with the Seattle Seahawks, Irvin made a $100,000 donation to WVU Athletic Club.
It’s not often that that a guy gives back to his alma mater just a few months into his NFL career, especially that big of a donation.
A high school drop out, Irvin had a troubled path as a child. He eventually got his GED and was able to attend Butler Community College and transferred on to play at Mt. San Antonio College before joining the WVU football team in 2010 and being drafted the 15th overall pick in the 2012 draft.
Irvin knows how important his decision to attend WVU was, and wanted something to show for it.
“I prayed about it and talked to a lot of people and I just felt in my heart it was the right decision,” Irvin said in a WVU press release.
“Everything starts in the weight room, so that’s the perfect place to put it.”
Irvin continues to connect with Mountaineer friends in Seattle and on the road, making it back for an occasional football game, and catch as many as he can on TV.
“I’m always going to rep West Virginia,” Irvin said.
WVUPros and Mountaineer Nation will continue to rep Bruce as well, and wish him luck this weekend in Arizona.
