ESPN and Infiniti have teamed up for the “Inspiration is Contagious” contest where fans can vote for their favorite college coaches and their charities. There are 48 different coaches involved, and the contest puts each coach in a regional bracket, similar to the NCAA Tourney, while fans cast votes with the first round ending on 1/25. Fans can vote everyday. The leading vote-getters move on to each progressive round until voting ends on 3/2.
The winning coach receives $100,000 to go towards their charity. Each coach will get at least $1,000 for participating.
West Virginia’s own Bob Huggins and his charity, the Norma Mae Huggins Fund, are a part of this contest. If Huggins wins, the funds will go to the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center in Morgantown. Norma Mae was Bob Huggins’ mother who passed away in 2003 with colon cancer. The fund was started to aid in cancer research and to help families around the state of West Virginia dealing with cancer.
“Mountaineer fans are the greatest,” Huggins said. “But I want them to realize that this event isn’t a popularity contest. When they vote for me, they’ll be voting to find new and better treatments for cancer and bringing hope to those afflicted with the disease.”
So please, go to the Infiniti Coaches’ Charity Challenge every day until 1/25 and vote for Bob Huggins to make it through to the second round.
On a personal note, this charity is something that is near and dear to me. With the help of the Norma Mae Huggins’ Fund, my mother was cured of cancer two years ago at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. Me and my family are grateful every day for what these fine people are accomplishing. Thank you.
