In a back and forth heavyweight contest the New England Patriots beat the Seattle Seahawks by a score of 28-24 in Arizona.
It didn’t take long for WVU’s Bruce Irvin to hear his name called as Irvin made a nice open-field tackle on Rob Gronkowski on the first play from scrimmage. Irvin applied pressure on Tom Brady all night and even recorded the lone sack on the veteran quarterback but it was not enough.
The Pats were able to neutralize the Seahawks’ notorious pass rush by getting rid of the ball, utilizing quick passes all game. Bruce ended up having three tackles and a sack in the game.
Brady made up for throwing two interceptions by tossing four touchdown passes including what ended up being the game-winner to Julian Edelman with 2:02 to go in the game.
In a game that will remembered for some bizarre plays and even more bizarre play calling, the Patriots collected their fourth Vince Lombardi Trophy.
In an ugly scene at the end of the game a chaotic scrum broke out as the Patriots were attempting to kneel down and run out the clock. The incident led to Bruce Irvin’s ejection from the game, although players on both teams were clearly seen throwing punches.
