Thomas was a free-agent for the first time in his career for about two hours. After stepping in to a starting role midway through last season for the Jaguars, he became one of their most consistent players on defense where he tallied 85 total tackles.
It is a huge pay raise for Thomas who made $645,000 last season in Jacksonville. He will make more in his first season with the Giants than he has in his first four NFL seasons combined.
In an NFC East featuring Chip Kelly’s uptempo offense, a good quarterback in Tony Romo and an elusive Robert Griffin III in Washington, Thomas gives the Giants a player who is good in pursuit and against the pass.
Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey will have a new quarterback behind center in St. Louis next season. The Rams traded Sam Bradford to Philadelphia in exchange for Nick Foles.
