We continue our 2017-18 NFL previews by examining the Green Bay Packers’ Don Barclay’s past, present, and future.
The Past: The Packers signed Barclay to another one-year contract on March 9th.
The Present: Throughout his pro career, Barclay has shown his versatility at being able to play any position on the offensive line. The long-time RG T.J. Lang signing with divisional foe Detroit this past offseason, that starting position is available and Barclay could fill it.
The Future: Barclay is best suited to play guard, and the opening at RG seems to be perfect. However, his on-field performances have been up-and-down. Solid in the run game, iffy when Aaron Rogers drops back to pass. There is a rookie and second-year player (Kyle Murphy) who Barclay will compete with for the job. Of the two, Murphy is the one to watch out for. Barclay has earned the trust of the coaching staff and Rogers, and that could go a long way to deciding his fate.
