We continue our 2017-18 NFL previews by examining Tavon Austin’s past, present, and future.
The Past: The Los Angeles Rams signed Austin to a huge contract extension prior to the start of last season. The the team proceeded to place an atrocious offense on the field where Austin totaled 668 total yards and four touchdowns. Austin had off-season wrist surgery, but is expected to be ready for camp.
The Present: After Jeff Fisher was finally let go, the team hired Sean McVay to take the reins as head coach with the hopes that he can mold 2016 No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff, Austin, and the rest of the offense into a competitive unit.
The Future: Fisher and his many offensive coordinators were never able to use Austin effectively. but with McVay in charge that will hopefully change. If McVay succeeds in accomplishing what the former regime was never able to do with Austin–that is, establish him as a deep threat–the potential WVU fans knew he had may finally come to fruition.
