This year, the NFL eliminated the first cutdown day during the preseason, and mandated that all teams have their squads down to 53 men by Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. Therefore, all games during the last week of the preseason came last night.
There were many roster spots in play as well as players fighting to earn higher spots on the depth chart. For WVU players in the NFL, perhaps none of these battles were more visible than that of Geno Smith.
He signed with the Giants this offseason to back up Eli Manning. Throughout camp, Smith battled with Josh Johnson and Davis Webb to be QB2, leading some pundits to question whether Smith will still have a spot on the roster come Saturday afternoon.
On Thursday night, Smith got the start over Johnson. He was almost perfect, going 10/11 passing for 111 yards and a TD, all but wrapping up the backup spot.
A scary moment came in the Jaguars/Falcons game, rookie Jarrod Harper had to be carted off the field and evaluated for a concussion. He later tweeted that he was OK, and will be back on the field soon.
