We continue our 2017-18 NFL previews by examining Chicago Bears’ LB Nick Kwiatkoski’s past, present, and future.
The Past: The Bears selected Kwiatkoski in the 4th round of the 2016 NFL Draft. On the first day of training camp, he suffered a hamstring injury that practically wiped out his preseason. He caught up, and when veteran Danny Trevathan went down with an injury, Kwiatkoski stepped in and started the last six games for Chicago. He ended up finishing seventh on the team in tackles with 57 and recorded 5 tackles for negative yardage.
The Present: Trevathan is back, but not quite at 100% yet. Kwiatkoski is getting plenty of first-team practice reps in his place.
The Future: Should Trevathan get healthy enough by the season opener to avoid being placed on the PUP list, Kwiatkoski will be a key backup. Should that not happen, the Bears are confident that Kwiatkoski can fill in as a starter and perform very well. No matter what happens to start the season, the team believes the future is bright with Kwiatkoski.
