Jones revived his career with the Bengals over the past three seasons after a troubled first few years in the NFL. He had injury problems his first two seasons in Cincinnati, but played in all 16 regular season games last year and the Playoffs. He had 40 tackles last season (his most since 2006), one sack and one forced fumble. He also made his mark on special teams as a punt returner, returning one for an 81-yard TD.
He played over 600 defensive snaps and allowed only two touchdowns according to ProFootballFocus. When quarterbacks targeted the receiver Jones draped himself upon, they only completed 54.5% of their passes.
For the Bengals and head coach Marvin Lewis to keep the core of their secondary together, they had to re-sign Jones. He played a vital role in their defense over the past three seasons, now it looks like he’ll do it for three more.
