We knew him as “Joe”. They know him as “Johannes”.

Joe Herber was a four-year starter for the Mountaineers basketball team from 2002-06. He was John Beilein’s second ever recruit for the Mountaineers, an import from Germany.

He was a floor general in his time at WVU. The 6-6 guard was a key piece in the Mountaineers run to the Elite 8 in 2006 with Kevin Pittsnogle and Mike Gansey. He finished 5th in career assists at WVU. He was 3-time academic All-Big East and one-time Academic All-American. He was also known for his defense and three-point shooting.

He did the dirty work for WVU and could bail out the team on occasion with his offense. He finished with career averages of 8.4 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists a game. The highlight of his career was hitting a 55-footer to beat IUPUI in 2003.

Johannes Herber has played professional basketball in Germany since graduating from West Virginia. He also played on the 2006 and 2012 German National basketball team.  He now plays for the Frankfurt Skyliners in Germany. He averaged 6.6 points per game last season with Walter Tigers Tübingen.
