Kent Richardson and the Philadelphia Soul are on their way to the Arena Bowl after defeating Scooter Berry and the Jacksonville Sharks last weekend.
On the way to New Orléans to face the Arizona Rattlers, Richardson picked up a prestigious award from the AFL after being named as the RevHoney Arena League Defensive Back of the Year.
“It always feels good to get acknowledged for your hard work,” Richardson told us. “It lets you know you are going in the right direction and to keep grinding hard. But the road doesn’t stop until we get that ArenaBowl Ring!”
This past season, Richardson led the AFL in interceptions, and set a team record, with 14. He also finished in the Top 10 in interceptions returned for a TD, interception yardage, and passes defended.
“I can’t think of a player more deserving of this award,” said Philadelphia Soul head coach Doug Plank. “Kent has worked hard all season, both on and off the field, to not only better himself, but the team as well. The effort and commitment that Kent has shown at his position is a big reason why our team is headed to the ArenaBowl.”
Richardson could potentially receive two more pieces of hardware before the season is over: an Arena Bowl Ring and a Defensive Player of the Year Award.
Could a trip to the NFL be far behind for Richardson? We’ll tell you in an interview we did with Richardson previewing the Arena Bowl later this week.
