Talk this week of Kevin Jones’ position in the upcoming NBA Draft has been all over the place. Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace described it as a ‘crap-shoot’. Jones has now worked out for at least 1/3 of the League.
Then Adam Zagoria reported this late last night:
“A team in the first round has committed to [Jones],” agent Bill Neff told SNY.tv. “The question is, what does that mean? I never trust anything other than what happens on draft night.
“He’ll get drafted,” Neff added. “It’s either them in the first or early second.”
Most Mock-Drafts have Jones going in the 2nd Round. Then again, how many Mock-Drafts had Bruce Irvin going in the 2nd and 3rd Rounds before the Seahawks selected him 15th overall?
Neff said the team who gave Jones the commitment will either draft Jones “in the first or early second.” Of the teams that fits that criteria, and that Jones has worked out for, only Golden State fits. They have the #30 pick at the end of the 1st Round and the #5 pick in the 2nd Round (#35 overall).
The article went on to note that many of the top-tier potential Draft choices, declined to work out with Jones. He was compared to Thomas Robinson of Kansas who could go as high as #2 to Charlotte. Jones is one year older than Robinson, but had similar stats last season.
Jones’ agent went on to say that Jones has outplayed likely lottery picks Tyler Zeller, Meyers Leonard, and Andrew Nicholson in private team workouts.
Darryl “Truck” Bryant has a workout scheduled with the Sacramento Kings on Monday June 25.
