Of course the big story out of training camp in New York is the quarterback battle between Geno Smith and newcomer Michael Vick. With OTAs in full swing, the QB battle is in motion, too.
Following Wednesday’s day of practice, head coach Rex Ryan reiterated that the competition remains open while Vick has stuck to the point that Smith is going to be the starter.
Ryan said, “I’ve said from Day 1 that I think Geno will be hard to beat out but I also said Mike will have an opportunity to compete and he definitely will.”
The head coach who’s job may be sitting on the brink after a few disappointing seasons said that the coaching staff just wants to see how things play out.
As things move forward, Smith and Vick will go head-to-head throughout the summer on the field and likely off the field with reporters, though Smith hasn’t been made available to the media in recent days, according to ESPN.
On Day Two of OTAs, all of the quarterbacks on the roster made appearances and threw in front of coaches. The Jets official website put a compilation video together of all of the quarterbacks throwing during the practice.
You can catch that video here.
