The Jacksonville Sharks and the Philadelphia Soul kicked off their first round Playoff games this past Saturday night at roughly the same time albeit in different parts of the country.

The Jacksonville Sharks and former Mountaineer Scooter Berry look to defend their Arena League Championship from last season. They started their run against the Georgia Force.

In the game, the Sharks jumped out on top and was ahead the Force 48-35 in the third quarter. The Force stormed back to take a 56-55 lead with just under two minutes left in the game. The Sharks got the ball back and kicked the game-winning field goal with time expiring to win 58-55.

Berry had the best rookie season in AFL history among defensive linemen and one of the best overall after recording a team and AFL rookie record 14 sacks.

Kent Richardson likewise set a Philadelphia Soul team record with 14 interceptions this season and was named as one of the best players in the AFL. He led his team against the New Orléans Voodoo in the first round. The Soul was heavily favored coming into the game, but New Orléans kept the game tight throughout.

The Soul eventually pushed ahead to win 66-53. Richardson recorded 3 tackles and broke up 1 pass in the game.

Now the Soul will face the Sharks in the second round of the Playoffs this Friday night on the NFL Network. Berry and Richardson were a part of the same recruiting class at WVU in 2006, so they know each other well. We will interview both this week and give them a forum to talk a little trash, comment on their previous game, give advice to each other for this weekend and tell something funny about each other from their time at WVU.

A preview of our conversation with Richardson: he told us how Berry is like an Olympic gymnast.
