Spurs Release Da’Sean Butler

Da’Sean Butler was released today by the San Antonio Spurs less than a week into training camp. The former Mountaineer entered Spurs camp healthy for the first time in his professional career.
Butler signed a contract with a VEF Riga in Latvia  just before the NBA Lockout ended. There, he saw his first live game action since the 2010 Final Four where be blew out his knee against Duke. He rehabbed his way back to health and was signed by the Spurs last spring shortly after doctors cleared him to play.

The Spurs have good depth at small forward. They drafted Kawhi Leonard in the 1st Round of the this past NBA Draft. They used the amnesty clause on Richard Jefferson to eliminate his contract. The Spurs have spoken to other free-agent small-forwards. James Anderson is also on the roster at SF. No official word from the Spurs has come yet for a reason as to Butler’s release.
If Butler doesn’t get invited to another NBA camp, he should latch on with an NBADL team or return overseas.
I will have more on the story as it develops. Keep checking back for updates.
