With RB Chris Johnson probable for this Sunday’s season-finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars with an ankle injury, the Titans have called Steve Slaton to come in and take a physical according to a source close to the situation.
Since his release from the Dolphins after the NFL Preseason, Slaton has worked out for several teams including Chicago, Denver, Detroit and the New York Jets. He has not made it as far as getting a physical with any of those teams. According to our source, by “calling in the doctors”, Slaton might be on the verge of signing with his third NFL team since getting drafted by the Houston Texans in 2008.
After Johnson left the game against the Packers last Sunday, Titans’ backup RB Jamie Harper managed just 19 yards on 6 carries. Thirteen of those yards came on one carry. Johnson’s primary backup, Javon Ringer, is already on IR.
If the Titans add Slaton going into the last game of the season, he would provide some much needed depth. He would also join former Mountaineer teammate, Darius Reynaud.
The Titans are 5-10 this season.
