Alex Ruoff was a member of Okapi Aalstar in Belgium. He injured his knee last season, had worked his way back to full health and had re-signed with the Belgium club outside of Brussels back in August. Ruoff had a change of plans. The Erie Bayhawks selected Ruoff in the Second Round (#28 overall). Another Mountaineer, Mike Gansey, was once a member of the Bayhawks and is one of the team’s all-time best players.
After the Draft’s end, Ruoff informed us that the Canton Charge traded for his rights. In a strange twist of Mountaineer Harmony, the person behind the trade was none other than Mike Gansey – the Cleveland Cavs Director of D-League Operations.
Ruoff will also team up with Kevin Jones, whom Canton claimed after his release from the Cavs.
The Texas Legends selected Truck Bryant with the 8th pick in the 4th Round. Bryant announced his intentions at the end of July to play in Europe this year, but stayed stateside with the prospect of getting drafted into the NBDL.
The Legends also featured a Mountaineer at one time. Joe Alexander earned All-League status for the team two seasons ago.
