We move from the defensive tackle position back to defensive end with our next player on our countdown to West Virginia’s season opener against Alabama in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff game in Atlanta. No. 93 Tom Briggs might have only started in his junior and senior years, but he made the most of his time during the 1991 and 1992 seasons.
Briggs had 93 total tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 12 sacks and two forced fumbles as well as four fumble recoveries.
The Liverpool, NY native did his best to contain the Miami offense in 1991 with 14 tackles and a pass breakup, but it wasn’t enough as West Virginia lost a 27-3 rout to the eventual national champion Hurricanes that season.
Briggs would go on to compete for a number of Canadian and Arena Football League teams from 1995 through 2008. He was named Lineman of the Year in 2002, and was selected to the All-Ironman team in 2001 and 2002
