WVU Pros Summer Preview: J.T. Thomas

J.T. Thomas has seen some revitalization to his career in a place where dreams often go to die. After being signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Thomas has gotten on the field more and looks to become a staple in the Jags special teams corps.

2013 Season Recap: Thomas had 23 tackles, a  forced fumble and a blocked punt for t he Jaguars last season. It was the first time Thomas had really seen the field for any NFL team after being released from the Bears. During the last two weeks of the season, Thomas had six and seven tackles, respectively, after gaining the start.

Contract: Thomas signed a four-year, $2.13  million deal with the Jags and is set to make $645,000 this season.

Summer OTA Outlook: Thomas made a living on special teams for most of the 2013 season but after making two starts, Thomas could be on his way to a more important role for the Jags. Recently, according to Jacksonville.com, the Jaguars did an 11-on-11 drill which featured rookies and young players. Thomas was at middle linebacker for the drill, giving coaches an extensive look at his skills.

2014 Season Outlook: Thomas will likely again make his living on special teams, a key role for most younger players. The three linebacker spots seem to be locked down but throughout the season Thomas could inch his way into a key reserve role.
