WVUPros NFL Preseason Week 2 Friday Recap: Reynaud Has Another Big Game

Here is a recap of the NFL games from Friday evening involving West Virginia Mountaineers. Last week, the opening weekend of Preseason play saw several Mountaineers lead their teams on offense and defense. Friday night saw more of the same.

Titans 30 – Buccaneers 7

After an eye-opening performance turned in during the second half of the Titans’ Preseason opener against Seattle, Darius Reynaud took to the field in Tampa Bay hoping for a repeat. In a three-minute time span during the third quarter, Reynaud scored touchdowns on consecutive touches. One on an 85-yard punt return. Another on a 21-yard run.

During practice last week following that game, the Titans gave Reynaud a couple of opportunities to get some reps in with the first-team offense. They liked what they saw, and head coach Mike Munchak said the Mountaineer could play during the first half of their game against Najee Goode, Keith Tandy and the Tampa Bay Bucs.

Reynaud first touched the ball on a 35-yard punt return during the second quarter. Then got a few carries after that. After Chris Johnson departed the game with 2 touchdowns on 46 yards rushing, Reynaud carried the load for part of the second and most of the third quarters. He almost broke one run for a touchdown if not for a shoestring tackle from Ahmad Black ending a 39-yard run.

Reynaud ended the game with 75 yards on 7 carries and was the Titans’ leading rusher to go along with 2 punt returns for 49 and 1 long kick return for 42 more.

“The times I get the ball, I have to take advantage of the opportunities,” Reynaud said. “I had a couple I could have scored on, but maybe next time.”

Reynaud, who converted from wide receiver to running back when he joined the Titans has not only made a strong case on why he should make the 53-man roster for the Titans, he may also make a push to take away carries from 4th year player Javon Ringer behind Chris Johnson.

Goode also played with the Bucs defensive starters during the second quarter and teamed up with Levonte David to keep Chris Johnson out of the end zone on one play. Goode matched his opening game total with 3 tackles. He showed his aptitude for run defense on several plays, getting behind the line and assisting on tackles.

Tandy had two tackles and broke up two would-be touchdown passes on consecutive plays during the third quarter.

Dolphins 17 – Panthers 23

Steve Slaton led the Dolphins in rushing with 22 yards on 4 carries. He also had one catch for 6.

Brandon Hogan sat out for the Panthers as he still nurses his knee injury.

Raiders 27 – Cardinals 31

Owen Schmitt started for the Raiders and had one catch for 3 yards.
